At the heart of 'Exit' the choreographer presents us with an exceptionally beautiful performance, of that spare, almost severe type of beauty that proceeds from a thoroughly mature reflection in which everything is purified through renunciation. (…) This work is almost a Jansenist act of faith. And it shines as much with fervour as with purity".
I can’t remember when I last saw a performance which blended movement, visuals and sound into such a solid thetrical achievement as In Between. (...) Other choreographers have used video to great effect, but Noiret’s less ambitious effort leaves us feeling that she has created a perfect, if scaled-down production".
La Monnaie has had the excellent idea to put on the performance 'In Between' for another four nights. This is probably Michèle Noiret's most beautiful, most accomplished work. (...) Film images literally interact with the dance steps, sounds shift with the bodies' movements, the dancers scale a wall of dreams and create dreamed pictorial shapes. The body becomes music, the image becomes a dialogue. A true moment of felicity".
A sense of measure and a perception of balance permeate the show with a dreamy atmosphere accentuated by the limpidity of the dancing. Architectural ode or contemporary ritual, the show imposes silence and slowness on the onlooker."
Without a shadow of a doubt, this is one of the most splending choreographic works of the summer, worthy of standing alongside Bill Viola's video installation in the "La Beauté" exhibition being staged at the Palais des Papes, in Avignon. (") Presented by four flexible artists, In Between takes the form of a skillfully designed plastic and choreographic installation. A captivating and hypnotising experience that never loses its sense of harmony."
This choreographer has been highly praised for so many of her earlier projects, so this latest production arrives like a breath of fresh air, a long exhalation. It excites the sensations, offering us an interplay between a virtual body and one rooted in nature."
Michèle Noiret blends breath-taking choreographic skills with a subtle deployment of technology to create the perfect performance. In Between is one of the most accomplished and thrilling works to grace our theatrical dance stages since a very long time."
Michèle Noiret obviously has no time for the comforting assurances of habit, regarding the buttresses of the body as an unexplored landscape, to be visited time and time again with the supernatural precision of her dancing. (...) Between the lines of In Between an unfamiliar language is used to provide an opportunity for mystery to encounter the obvious."
